Crìa: Advanced Technologies for the Future Pharma/Biotech Cold Chain
Vittorio Palmieri – Crìa Technologies SA, Geneva, Switzerland
This seminar will present the research and development activities of Crìa Technologies SA, a startup
founded by Vittorio Palmieri, a physicist with prior experience at CERN and TVP Solar. The company designs
compact, robust, and reusable systems for the transport of biological materials under controlled conditions,
capable of maintaining temperatures between +8 °C and –150 °C for several days by employing liquid
nitrogen, dry ice, or phase change materials (PCM).
Recent studies, presented at the annual meeting of the International Society for Cryobiology, have shown
that PCM-based Crìa’s containers can represent a sustainable and practical alternative to dry ice, enabling a
more efficient cold chain for future Pharma/Biotech applications, including cell and gene therapies and
mRNA vaccines.
The seminar is primarily addressed to master’s students and PhD candidates in engineering who are
interested in frontier technology related to the fields of high vacuum, thin films, IoT, and datalogging. The
meeting aims to illustrate the scientific and industrial perspectives of the project and to present
employment opportunities in R&D.
