PhD Program in “INDUSTRIAL PRODUCT AND PROCESS ENGINEERING”
Department of Chemical, Materials and Production Engineering (DICMaPI)
University of Naples Federico II
The PhD program in Industrial Product and Process Engineering is aimed at training scholars able to perform, adopting an inter- and multi-disciplinary approach, research activities in the field of the design and production of materials and industrial products, of the energy production and of preservation and recovery of environmental resources, both in an academic and in an industrial environment. It is structured I three different curricula: ‘Chemical Engineering’, ‘Materials and Structures Engineering’ and ‘Production Systems and Technologies’.
The three years long Program, provides a strong knowledge of the theoretical and experimental aspects of topics related to chemical engineering, materials science and engineering as well as of production systems and technologies. Aim of the PhD program is the training of professionals with a thorough engineering knowledge and with the ability to carry out research activities and technological developments related to design, development, processing and production, modification and technological applications of materials and, more in general, to the industrial production as well as to energy generation, providing innovative solutions which are technically and economically feasible.
To support the experimental activities, several properly equipped laboratories are available to PhD students, i.e.: optical, confocal, electronic and atomic force microscopy; spectroscopic and scattering measurements; determination of morphological, thermo-physical, rheological and mechanical properties of materials; instrumental chemical analysis; measurement of mass transport properties of polymers and of biological systems; chemical synthesis of materials; processing of polymers and composites; biomaterials characterization; tissue, cell and molecular engineering; chemical plants and reactors; combustion; simulation of fluid dynamics and of reaction processes; metrology and non-destructive testing.
The PhD program takes advantage of several collaborations with italian and international research institutions among which we mention here: the Italian Institute of Technology, the Combustion Research Institute (National Research Council), the Institute for Composite and Biomedical Materials (National Research Council), the Institute for Polymer Chemistry and Technology (National Research Council), the National Institute of Optics (National Research Council), the Engines Institute (National Research Council), the regional Energy District, the National Agency for Alternative Energies (ENEA), the Utah University (USA) – Department of Chemical Engineering, the T.U.E. Technische Universiteit Eindhoven (The Netherlands), the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium), the Technical University of Chemnitz (Germany), the Centre for Tissue Engineering – UKCTE (United Kingdom). the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (Germany), Procter & Gamble e Bridgestone.
To gain his PhD degree, the student is required to complete an original research project on a topic that has to be consistent with one of the three curricula forming the PhD program. or is focused on aspects that are in between two or three curricula.
PhD supervisors are selected among the members of the Board of Professors, among the faculty members (assistant, associates and full professors) belonging to the Department of Chemical, Materials and Production Engineering (DICMAPI) and among researchers belonging to other Institutions cooperating with DICMAPI.
The Coordinator of the PhD program is Andrea D’Anna.
The Board of Professors has the following composition: Board of Professors
