Qui di seguito una short bio della prof.ssa Duarte.</span></p>
<p>SHORT BIO:<br />
Susana Duarte holds a PhD in Industrial Engineering. She is an Assistant<br />
Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering,<br />
NOVA School of Science and Technology, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa,<br />
Portugal. She lectures several courses on topics related to industrial<br />
engineering including production management, industrial strategy and<br />
management, Industrial engineering, logistics, and lean six sigma, among<br />
others. She is a research member of the Research and Development Unit<br />
for Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (UNIDEMI) where she develops<br />
their investigation in lean thinking, green management, their<br />
integration on supply chain management, business sustainability,<br />
performance measurement systems, and Industry 4.0. She made part of the<br />
research team of the project entitled &#8220;Lean, Agile, Resilient and Green<br />
Supply Chain Management&#8221; and she has published scientific papers in<br />
international journals and conference proceedings. She was awarded the<br />
Outstanding Paper Award (Awards for Excellence) from Emerald Group<br />
Publishing, three paper awards from International Conferences, a<br />
Teaching Excellence Award, and a Woman in Industry and Academia Award<br />
from IEOM Society. She is a member of the board of the Portuguese<br />
Institute of Industrial Engineering.</p>

<p>Alexandra Albunia, Borealis Polyolefine GmbH &#8211; Innovation and Technology</p>
<p>Polietilene e polipropilene sono tra i polimeri più diffusi al mondo per le più svariate applicazioni, dal packaging alle costruzioni, dal trasporto all’energia. L’impatto sull’ambiente, derivante da un impropria gestione del loro ciclo di vita, rappresenta oggi il maggior problema da risolvere per questi materiali. Diverse tecnologie di riciclo sono state sviluppate, tuttavia meno del 10% è effettivamente riciclato in Europa. Ció a causa dei molti ostacoli incontrati sul percorso di implementazione che possono essere risolti con un approccio scientifco e pragmatico. Alcuni esempi saranno discussi, insieme alle possibili soluzioni.<br />

<p>Alexandra Albunia is Senior Group Expert in Innovation and Technology at Borealis. She studied chemistry at the University of Salerno, where she defended her PhD in 2003. In 2010, she received the innovation prize from Italian President, On. Giorgio Napolitano, and was co-founder of a start-up (Nanoactive Film srl). In December 2013 she got the habilitation as assistant professor in Industrial Chemistry. She joined Borealis as a scientist in 2011. From 2014 to 2021 she took over different managerial positions, responsible for operations and leading professional, and then she focused again</p>

									<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">SEMINARIO</span></p><p>aula Malquori, 8 Gennaio, ore 15:00</p><p>Prof. Mirella Di Lorenzo</p><p>Professor of Biochemical Engineering, Associate Dean International for<br />the Faculty of Engineering and Design and co-Director of the Research<br />Centre for Bioengineering and Biomedical Technologies (CBio)</p><p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Titolo:</span></p><p>Bioelectrochemical systems for energy and sensing applications</p><p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Abstract:</span></p><p>This talk provides an overview of the activities of the Biosensors and<br />Biofuel Cells lab at Bath, led by Prof Di Lorenzo, with the aim to<br />generate fruitful discussions and ideas for collaborations. Over the<br />past 12 years, we have developed a cross-disciplinary research<br />portfolio that embraces engineering, biocatalysis, biotechnology,<br />material science, fuel cell technology and sensing technology, with a<br />focus towards the development of affordable, sustainable and<br />environmentally friendly electrochemical systems for energy harvesting<br />from waste, water quality monitoring systems and wearable and<br />implantable healthcare devices. In particular, our research into<br />microbial fuel cells (MFC) is focused on applications such as energy<br />harvesting from waste, bioremediation of contaminated water and soil,<br />and water quality monitoring. We use cost-effective materials for<br />affordable solutions, which include exploring the use of waste as a<br />resource. We also focus on innovative designs, ranging from<br />microfluidic systems to fully biodegradable paper-based MFCs, to<br />soil-based MFCs with simple and low-cost designs. We develop<br />technological solutions for power scaling-up with the use of<br />customised power management systems with the support of mathematical<br />modelling and simulation. We have recently demonstrated in field the<br />reproducibility of lab results and our success has led to the<br />establishment of the start-up Bactery. Our research into enzymatic and<br />abiotic fuel cells is focused on applications such as energy<br />harvesting from physiological fluids, namely saliva, sweat and<br />interstitial fluid, and the monitoring of key metabolites (glucose,<br />lactate) and biomarkers of interest (acetylcholine, associated to<br />serious brain’s disorders), for wearable and implantable devices. We<br />work on the development of innovative nanostructured conductive<br />materials and miniature arrays on chip.
